Priorities
Individual Liberty
The rights of American citizens have been under attack in recent years. None more so than our freedom of speech. From college campuses, to our places of work, to the internet, Conservatives are being censored from expressing themselves. As radicals have begun taking over politics, the more policy positions have become more deranged, the harder it’s become to defend them. Therefore, silencing political opponents has become their only recourse. Political discourse is absolutely essential in a democratic society. If you are unable to effectively argue your policy position, you may need to rethink the policy all together. Throughout history, dictators did not come to power because they were allowed to speak their mind, they came to power by preventing their opponents from speaking theirs. Sound policy is achieved through debate, not censorship.
2nd Amendment
The right to bear arms is what makes every other God-given right a US citizen is born with possible. If the government is allowed to possess weapons to enforce their laws then a US citizen must be allowed to possess weapons to enforce their rights. Citizens have the right to feel safe and to protect themselves and their loved ones. Americans who go through the legal channels to obtain a firearm should not be punished for those who illegally obtain firearms with the intent of hurting others. The United States has the 3rd largest army in the world, behind China and India. The United States also has 78 million registered gun owners; a citizenry-militia with its American roots imbedded in our country’s founding and fight for freedom and independence. When you factor in this militia, the United States has the largest fighting defense force the world has ever seen, making any hopes of an invasion by our adversaries all but impossible.
National Defense
A strong national defense must be a pillar of any democracy. Every attack on America has occurred when the country has appeared at its weakest. This perceived weakness has led to approximately 3 million causalities in wars that could have been prevented. Nothing saves an American soldier’s life better than a military so powerful, its enemies are too afraid to attack it. A strong military is not only essential to preserving our freedom, but also instrumental in preventing war in the first place. A strong national defense saves lives, prevents conflict, and insures our freedoms.
Education
You do not need to have a particular political affiliation to believe parents should have ultimate say over what their children are taught in school. The teaching of lude and sexual acts have no place in an elementary classroom. Telling children that they are evil because of the color of their skin or that, no matter how hard they try, they will never achieve their goals because of the color of their skin has no place in ANY classroom. These teachings encourage divisiveness and inspire a lack of motivation to work hard and succeed. Parents should not be forced to send their children to institutions where these principles are taught. School choice provides parents with options to seek the best education for their children while also holding schools accountable for their curriculum and quality of education.
Immigration
Immigration is a phenomenal resource for the United Sates. Some of the greatest inventors and job creators in American history were immigrants. Almost all of us are decedents of immigrants. Our ancestors used legal immigration to set the foundation for success and opportunity for the American Dream for generations to come. Illegal Immigration is not Immigration. Illegal immigration breeds nefarious, illegal acts, without offering any of the benefits of a stable foundation offered with legal immigration. Strong border policy rewards those who wish to come here through the proper channels, while also preventing bad actors from infiltrating our sovereignty and breaking our laws. There is nothing moral, empathetic, or decent about enabling the trafficking of sex, guns, or narcotics through lacks border enforcement. And there is nothing bigoted or racist about wanting to know who someone is and what their intentions are – ESPECIALLY if they’re trying to sneak by US officials tasked with asking those very questions. The American people have a right to know who is entering their country and why they chose to come here.
Economy & Taxes
Free Market economics is the only way to sustain economic growth and prosperity. This is a statement of fact. This battle was fought and won over 70 years ago and anyone who wishes to rehash old debates has either neglected to do the research or is willfully ignorant of the facts. When the government is removed from picking winners and losers and the market is left to dictate results, bad actors are exposed, innovation flourishes, costs decrease, and the consumer wins. We at Grand Old Pac also believe the American people have a better idea of how they should spend their money than the federal government does, therefore the American people should be allowed to keep more of it. Bloated budgets and increased taxes have made the American Dream far less achievable. People should be in charge of the money they earn so they can control their own destiny. We live in a society today where government bureaucrats take more and more money from people they’ve never met and spend it in ways that don’t benefit those they’re taking from. People work hard for their money, they should spend it (or save it) the best way they see fit.
